# The Alphard 40 Series: Why We Use It
In June 2023, Toyota launched the fully redesigned Alphard — the first major overhaul in ten years. We added the 40 Series to our fleet shortly after release, and it's now one of our primary vehicles. Here's what we've learned from actually using it.
## What Changed Inside
Interior height increased by 30mm over the previous generation (now 1,400mm). That sounds modest, but the difference is noticeable when you're seated in the back. Legroom and headroom both feel more generous.
The rear seats recline up to 48 degrees — close to flat. On longer runs, like Narita to central Tokyo, passengers arrive noticeably less fatigued than in the previous model.
## Luggage Capacity
Large suitcases (28-inch) fit four to five pieces. Golf bags fit two to three. For group travel or families with significant luggage, a second vehicle is rarely needed.
If you have more than four golf bags, or unusually large items, let us know in advance. We can arrange a black Hiace depending on the situation.
## Standard Equipment in Practice
**Wi-Fi**は、Available in the cabin. Connection may drop in tunnels or underground sections。**USB-C charging ports**は、Two in the rear, suitable for phones and tablets。**Seat heating**は、In winter, the driver pre-warms the cabin before departure。**Privacy curtains**は、Available when needed。
## How It Compares to the Mercedes S-Class
We also operate the Mercedes S-Class and V-Class alongside the Alphard.
The S-Class is in a different category for ride quality and cabin silence. Road imperfections are almost imperceptible, making it the right choice for VIP hospitality and high-profile guest pickups. Luggage space is more limited.
The V-Class handles larger groups — up to seven passengers with room for bags.
The Alphard 40 Series sits between them: a practical balance of comfort and cargo capacity that makes it the most versatile option for airport transfers.
## Requesting a Specific Vehicle
You can specify a vehicle preference when booking. We'll confirm availability. If the requested vehicle isn't available, we'll contact you in advance.
